Learner Services at South Essex College

Our staff work in close collaboration with the Learner Services Team at the College to enable students with special needs to access further education. Each student is assessed and has an individual care plan. We are able to meet their physical needs for example toileting and assistance with feeding, and support students with mental health problems, learning disability, challenging behavior and medical conditions such as epilepsy and administer medication as required. Our support workers also help students in classes by scribing, reading, guiding and accompany them when they are away from the college out shopping and on trips and during work placements.

There is a dedicated team of support workers at the college, managed by the Supervisor Michelle Chamberlin. Support workers liaise closely with the student and their family and college learner support team. They ensure that the students are safe and well cared for, able to participate fully in all that the college has to offer and can enjoy a normal young adult life with opportunities to learn new skills, increase their confidence and socialize. We work with students at all South Essex College Campuses.
